Well it seems that I only get around to recording anything new on long weekends. I've been working on some principles to improve my singing so it has made recording easier (fewer takes per song). Despite this, there hasn't been time as in the past month or so we've gone to see Jason Isbell, Justin Townes Earle (again), Deer Tick, Dawes, and Blitzen Trapper. Many of these artists we heard at Newport (albeit sometimes as part of another band or side project).
One of the bands from Newport that we would like to see again is Trampled by Turtles. Although I am a fan of bluegrass, I find it sometimes a bit over the top. Trampled by Turtles effectively blends folk and bluegrass. For these two recordings I've decided to keep it simple, recording using a Martin D-35 straight into a condenser mic (Rode NT1). The mic captures both the guitar and vocals (this is how they did it back in the day). A very light EQ was applied and some compression on "Bloodshot Eyes" to reduce the volume of the harmonica.
