One of the challenges I have with this blog is trying to post covers of a wide variety of artists. Although my musical interest is diverse, my vocal range is limited. As a result, it feels like I keep posting songs from the same few artists here. Maybe eventually I'll get my act together and have someone else sing the tracks or record more of our live jam sessions (where the material is more diverse).
In the mean time, here is another Josh Ritter tune. This song is from The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter, an album where he inserts himself into the historical allegory that he uses in his songwriting. Although it seems the song is about a girl during the cold war in a missle silo, I'm not entirely sure of the true meaning. Nevertheless, the imagery evoked by the lyrics is incredible: "I think about you leaving now and the avalanche cascades/ And my eyes get washed away in chain reactions."
Production notes: first time trying two mics - vocal AT4040 and guitar MXL993 (small diaphragm condenser). The entire song is one take except for the instrumental which was spliced in. Only a small amount of reverb and EQ was used.
