There are many fantastic Canadian artists but one of my favourites is Emm Gryner. She has had some exposure at the Junos but hasn't gotten her fair share of attention (there's a lot of artists like this...)
Her output is very broad and I'm not a fan of all of it (some is too 'produced' for my taste). Her best albums are probably "The Summer of High Hopes", "Science Fair", and "The Great Lakes". This is just my preference; the stripped down sound/production of these three lets the music shine through.
She also did an interesting album called "Girl Versions" where she does solo piano/vocal covers of famous songs. This normally wouldn't be that interesting but she's chosen heavy rock songs to cover... a different take entirely.
We routinely play a song of hers called "Summerlong". It's an amazing vocal part. Of course I ruined the end of this particular take as I had switched guitars and wasn't use to palm muting on a covered bridge. The electric sound is a Rickenbacker 360 through a Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr. and I think it suits the song perfectly. I think at some point I'll post a re-recorded version but here it is (in draft) for now.
