I've recently discovered John Prine. I've been getting more into folk and country music lately. I've heard of him before as several artists that I like have referenced him in their songs (Everclear, Josh Ritter).
This particular song is a cover of a cover. There's an excellent cover album of John Prine songs from a variety of interesting artists called "Broken Hearts and Dirty Windows". On it, Josh Ritter covers "Mexican Home".
It's an amazing song and an interesting finger picking pattern in C major. The recorded version by Josh Ritter is played with a capo in the key of G, but live he plays it this way (probably because it's easier to sing). I'm intrigued by the way he covers this; more of a folk cover of a country song. There's several other songs on the album that I'm going to attempt in this manner within the next few weeks, such as "Far From Me".
This was recorded in about 1/2 an hour tonight on an EV Raven mic (cheap dynamic mic). There's a small bit of EQ but it's quite amazing how sweet this mic sounds given the price (~$50).
Anyway, here it is...
