Where did the last year go? I finally had some time this morning to record a new cover. This is a few takes mashed together, mainly to test a new microphone (the Warm WA-67, a copy of the classic Neumann U67 used by the Beatles and many others).
This song has an interesting story. It's off the Wilco and Billy Bragg album Mermaid Avenue. which he often performs live with simple acoustic instruments. So why the picture of Woody Guthrie? The entire album was written from lyric fragments that he left behind, with approval from his estate. All of the sudden it makes sense why Jeff Tweedy and Billy Bragg are making reference to Nora Lee (Guthrie) in this song.
Production notes: Larrivee L03 with AT4040 LDC -> Warm WA12 MKII Pre AND Warm WA-67 -> JHS Colour Box (Neve preamp copy) all into the Komplete Audio 6 interface. Recorded mid/side stereo with the AT4040 as the main mic. No processing aside from the stereo matrixing.
